Scoring 100 in an ODI is a major achievement. Scoring 200 is something only a handful of players have done, and it needs skill, fitness, concentration and the ability to find boundaries again and again. This guide lists every men’s ODI double century, plus the women’s records, the fastest double hundreds, Indian players and World Cup records.
What Is a Double Century in ODI Cricket?
A double century means scoring 200 or more runs in a single ODI innings. With each team limited to 50 overs, reaching 200 is much harder than in Test cricket. A score of 200* counts, and the milestone is counted once per innings, however far the batter goes beyond it. The asterisk simply means the batter was not dismissed.

Double Centuries in a Chase, and in a Defeat
Glenn Maxwell, 201* (2023)
From 91/7, chasing 292, he won the World Cup match against Afghanistan almost single-handedly.
Shubman Gill, 223* (2026)
His unbeaten double came in a successful run chase against the West Indies in Guwahati.
Harry Brook, 202 (2026)
The first ODI double century in a losing cause. England made 429/4, but Sri Lanka won with a ball to spare.
After the match, Brook said his double hundred had no value in a loss, a reminder that even 200 does not guarantee victory.
Why Are ODI Double Centuries So Rare?
Limited deliveries
A team gets a maximum of 300 legal balls, so a batter has to score fast and long.
Risk of getting out
Aggressive batting at a high rate raises the chance of losing a wicket.
Fitness
Batting for 130 to 170 balls takes stamina, concentration and strong running between the wickets.
Match situation
Early wickets can force caution, and in a chase the target may be reached before 200 is possible.
Bowling quality
International attacks use variations, fields and plans to restrict scoring for as long as they can.
